Highlights of James Levine's first season as Music Director at the BSO include Karita Mattila's reprisal of Salome in November (just the concluding scene, however, and no dance of the seven veils, but I'm sure she'll wear something sassy; for those who want the complete performance, she will apparently be returning it to the Met in the 2006-07 season), and a complete concert performance of The Flying Dutchman, with Deborah Voigt as Senta, in March.
Travel between Boston and New York is relatively cheap these days thanks to the Fung Wah bus company and its competitors - $20 for a round trip ticket (departing Canal Street at one end, and South Station at the other). A four hour drive is a four hour drive, no matter how you cut it, and the cuisine could be a little better - the bus usually makes a stop at a McDonald's or a Roy Rogers along the way - but did I mention that it's only $20?
In other words: road trip!
