Snapshots from San Francisco

Not my own, but worth taking a look! The first is a gallery of images from the Musee Mecanique. The Musee, which is one of the few remnants of the old Playland at the Beach amusement park, is located next to the Cliff House, just down the hill from Sutro Park itself.

Back in the day, I could be found here on an early Saturday night, playing video games before going outside to watch the sun set over Seal Rock. (Playland at the Beach makes an important cameo at the end of Orson Welles's The Lady From Shanghai; at some point, I'll need to compile a list of films shot at or around Sutro Park, a list that will also include Erich Von Stroheim's Greed - which, for some reason, still hasn't found its way to DVD - but, in the meantime, look here for films shot in the city at large.)

The second is the archive of SnapCity - the "Snapshots of San Francisco" website. It looks like the site hasn't been updated in quite a while (I'm not one to talk), but I'm glad that "Emilie" is keeping the old snapshots online for the time being, because they're nice ones. Plus, she has a mix of San Francisco and New York photos, which seems an especially good fit for me.
